Think about your favorite pair of heels. They might be those black suede pumps that instantly make your legs look amazing, or those sexy studded wedges that turn heads everywhere you go.

Now think about how your feet feel after a night of wearing those favorite heels out… If you’re lucky, you’ll get away with just a blister or two. But if you’re not so lucky, you could end up with swollen feet, numb toes, and bloody blisters for up to a week after you take those heels off. Fear not B’s- here’s your step-by-step guide to bring those feet back to life in no time!

1. SOAK

Although you may be tempted to soak your feet in hot water right after taking off your heels, soaking them in cold water will actually help with the swelling in the long run. If you’re a busy B, you’ll want to be back on your feet ASAP!

2. MOISTURIZE

After you take your feet out of your cold soak, it is important to lock in moisture to prevent your heels from cracking. Lather on some of your favorite foot cream or Vaseline. Mine is Burt’s Bees Coconut Foot Creme ($8.99, Ulta). This product is more of a salve than a cream, but I love it because it smells like a tropical vacation, and the coconut oil and peppermint extract is super pampering.

3. MASSAGE

Using your thumbs, start at the middle of your foot and work your way up in circular motions all the way to your toes. It might hurt a little, but that’s the point of deep tissue massage! Really work until you can feel the blood rushing to your toes.

4. WRAP AND ELEVATE

After you get that blood flow goin’, put on your comfiest pair of socks to let that cream work its magic. If you’re ready to go to bed, stick a pillow under your legs to prop them up. If you’re just maxin’ and relaxin’ for the day, lay back in a reclining chair, or kick up your feet on the coffee table to prevent the fluid from building up in your feet and to improve circulation.

5. TAKE A WALK

Lace up your favorite walking/running sneakers and go on a 30-minute walk around the neighborhood. It’s important to keep the blood flowing without stressing out your feet too much. Walking provides that perfect amount of exercise without aggravating those gnarly blisters. If you can’t afford to wear sneakers around for the next couple days, at least wear things that offer you heel and arch support (aka no flip flops, skimpy sandals, or, obviously, heels).

6. PREPARE FOR THE NEXT TIME

So you probably whined, “I’m never wearing these again…” wincing as you ripped off your once beloved wedges. But let’s be real, you’ll be wearing those next weekend. Once your feet have recovered, you can’t forget how much you hated yourself for killing them in the first place! Invest in some high heel insoles. My friend swears by Dr. Scholl’s for Her Ball-of-Foot Cushions. They’ll help make sure that your feet don’t slip down causing your toes to suffocate, and one size fits all!

I really hope you found these tips to be helpful, and wish you the best of luck in bringing your feet back to life!
